Scholarships and Awards

Every year, several nursing students from Penn win scholarships at both the state and national level. Prizes can range from $250-$5000.

State scholarships are available through the Student Nurses Association of Pennsylvania. If you apply for a state scholarship you must also attend State Convention. Please email John Palmer if you have questions about state scholarships or convention. If you would like a recommendation from our faculty director, Dr. Spatz, please email her directly. There are also national scholarships available through the National Student Nurses Association. Please use the links below for more information.

2019 State Convention Awards

At the 2019 state convention in Lancaster, SNAP collectively won 10 awards. Seven scholarships were awarded to SNAP members: four Freshman Scholarships awarded to John Palmer, Caroline Dillon, Claire Hennessey, and Tara Teipel, and three Upperclassman Scholarships awarded to Julia Ann Kennedy (Secretary), Cassidy Gallagher (Treasurer), and Michelle Nigro (President). 

The Dr. Rena M. Lawrence Memorial Award given to a student who demonstrates outstanding achievement and commitment to nursing excellence, was awarded to our chapter President at the time, Michelle Nigro. The SNAP Leader of Tomorrow Award, which recognizes a distinguished nursing student who exemplifies leadership and achievement in SNAP, their community and their scholarly efforts, was awarded to our Treasurer Cassidy Gallagher. 

Finally, our chapter was awarded the Chapter Excellence Award for our size chapter.
