The brainchild of Penn Nursing’s Marion Leary, director of innovation, the Nursing StorySlam brought together ten nurses from Penn Nursing and Penn Medicine to share their true, personal stories that explored the breadth, depth, and diversity of nursing in front of a packed house at West Philly’s community arts space, the Rotunda.

Cyd Charisse Villalba, a post-master’s DNP candidate at Penn Nursing, healthcare analytics specialist, and ANA-NY research fellow , participated in LinkedIn’s pilot #FutureLeadersOfNursing boot camp at the company’s HQ in NYC on February 8. Participants learned how to amplify their voices and make a positive impact in their own communities all in order to change the future of nursing for the better.

In this role, Marion Leary, MSN, MPH, RN, FAHA, will design and execute innovation programs and projects through Penn Nursing ’s Office of Nursing Research (ONR) and will work to keep the School at the forefront of innovation in nursing. The appointment was effective February 1, 2019.

Cancer clinical trials are an important option for patients with cancer. Yet, once a trial ends, patients still need care plans. Little is known at what point during clinical trial transitions to initiate advance planning discussions or how to educate research teams to communicate with and prepare patient-participants and their families for the next steps after they leave a cancer clinical trial.

Strumpf, PhD , Professor of Nursing and Dean Emerita, and physician, surgeon, and human rights activist Denis Mukwege , who recently won a Nobel Peace Prize and was the recipient of the 2016 Penn Nursing Renfield Foundation Award for Global Women’s Health , will both receive honorary doctor of sciences degrees during the University of Pennsylvania commencement on Monday, May 20, 2019.
