Patrina Sexton Topper
In an effort to marry her interests in the body with social theory, Patrina completed a Masters of Science in Bioethics at Columbia University. While at Columbia she came under the mentorship of nurse researchers and began her own journey toward the same such vocation.
Patrina also worked on qualitative research projects that dealt with bioethical concerns associated with HIV research within developing countries from which two publications have emerged. She is thrilled to be working at Penn Nursing as a Hillman Scholar in Nursing Innovation under the mentorship of Dr. Salimah Meghani and Dr. Connie Ulrich.
Patrina Sexton Topper grew up on Long Island in New York and completed her BA in Sociology at the University of Dayton in Ohio. She followed her passion for understanding the body and embodied human experience as a licensed, clinical massage therapist, which she has practiced for 13 years in private practice. As a massage therapist she has specialized in pregnancy massage, post-surgical rehabilitation, and hospice and end-of-life care.
