I Graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1994 from the Teriary nurse practitioner program. I passed the acute care boards in 1995, when they were first released. I have worked in Cardiology since graduating. When I graduated, Pennsylvania did not have prescriptive authority so I wrote protocols that were used at Hahnemann Hospital and they were also used at other hospitals until prescription ability was passed. I started to precept nurse practitioner students from Penn in 1996 and continued until I took a position as a clinical preceptor in 2008. I still work with a cardiology practice today.

Mentoring is very important, especially in this changing health care world. Seeing and helping students navigate difficult situations is rewarding. Also as Nurse Practitioners, we need to encourage our younger counterparts.
