ABSN, American Psychiatric Nurses Association Scholar

Hannah is an ABSN student submatriculated into the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner program. She has a previous degree in psychology from Kenyon College. Before Penn, she worked in two research labs focused on child development and eating behaviors. She is passionate about pediatric mental health and looks forward to working with this population.  Hannah has been recognized as a 2024 APNA Board of Directors Scholar.

What's your favorite Penn activity / hobby outside of class (e.g. on-campus groups, clubs, athletics, volunteering, etc)?

I am a member of Sigma Theta Tau and SNAP, I am a research assistant in Dr. Meghani’s lab, and I volunteer with Family Connects in the CHOP ED.

The most memorable moment I've had at Penn Nursing so far is...?

One of the most memorable experiences was working with another classmate to wash and braid a woman’s hair after she received a liver transplant.

Is there anything that you wish you knew before coming to Penn?

This program is challenging but the people you will work with and experience you will gain make it so worth it.

What is something that you really like about your program of study?

I have enjoyed connecting with my classmates and instructors.

What's your favorite thing about your cohort and/or the community at Penn?

I love the collaborative nature of the ABSN program.

What or who has inspired you the most while pursuing your degree, and why?

I have been inspired by the strength, courage, and kindness of the patients I get to work with during my clinical rotations and shadowing/volunteer experiences. I am so fortunate to have worked with patients who are eager to talk to students and allow us to learn from them.
