Olga F. Jarrin Montaner, PhD, RN, FAAN

Dr. Olga F. Jarrín Montaner joined the Rutgers School of Nursing faculty in 2016 after completing postdoctoral fellowships in Gerontology and Health Services Research at the University of Pennsylvania. She directs the Community Health and Aging Outcomes Laboratory and leads a five-year, $1 million study – funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) – on the effectiveness of home health care for older adults and people living with chronic illness. This project focuses on the comparative effectiveness of variations in home health care on outcomes for racially and ethnically diverse older adults living with chronic and complex illnesses including Alzheimer’s Disease, End-Stage Renal Disease, and HIV/AIDS. Specifically, this research explores which patients, under what specific circumstances, benefit the most from different forms of home health care. This research contributes to the long-term goal of developing policy and practice recommendations to better meet the needs of different patient populations, various racial/ethnic communities, and older adults facing complex medical conditions.

Dr. Jarrín is also a co-investigator on the largest study of its kind on nursing care and patient outcomes in the United States, directed by University of Pennsylvania Professor Linda H. Aiken, and funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, the Boettner Center, and the Rita and Alex Hillman Foundation.
