Co-sponsored by the Asian Pacific American Nursing Student Association (APANSA) in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month

What does it really mean to leave your homeland – your friends and family, to have to adjust to new language and culture? Why must one “go away” to be able to “give back?” Join Alfredo Sagisi for this special presentation and gain insight into these important questions as well as the current health situation in the Philippines.

Alfredo obtained his Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Santo Tomas (Manila) in 1991. His nursing journey eventually led him to leave his home in the Philippines for the United States where he earned his Master of Science degree in Nursing Informatics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (2003) and later pursued further training at Johns Hopkins University and Wharton. Alfredo has held numerous clinical, informatics, and leadership positions in the Philippines and during his 20+ years in the United States. He was Director of Operations for Neurology at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Washington DC and is now starting a new position as Senior Director of Operations and Analytics at Sheppard Pratt in Towson, Maryland. He is currently working on his Doctor of Nursing Practice – Executive Leadership at Penn’s School of Nursing.

The theme of “giving back,” will include the story of how Alfredo, along with other volunteers from the USA, Australia, and the Philippines, participated in a medical / surgical / dental mission on the island of Siquijor– “Alay ng Puso sa Siquijor” (Gift from the Heart to Siquijor) with The University of Santo Tomas Nurses Association International, Inc (USTNAI).
