Penn Global Seminar: Exploring Traditional Chinese Medicine
This seminar is an immersive experience emphasizing interdisciplinary learning that introduces students to Traditional Chinese Medicine as a specific form of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. This course includes both integrative classroom teaching and hands-on fieldwork in TCM hospitals in China or Taiwan. Specifically, the course will cover: introduction to basic principles, discussions, demonstrations with TCM practitioners, cultural experiences, and a field study with clinical observation in China or Taiwan. In addition, we will cover TCM theory, most common TCM modalities, and the regulations, safety, efficacy, and ethics of TCM. We will invite experts in the field to provide guest lectures and in-class demonstrations.
Please note that this course has a travel component involving immersive clinical experiences with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and affiliated hospitals. This travel component will take place following the end of the semester.
