Amanda P. Bettencourt, PhD, APRN, CCRN-K, ACCNS-P
Research Fellow, The National Clinician Scholars Program and TACTICAL K12 Scholar, University of Michigan School of Nursing, Ann Arbor, MI
Dr. Bettencourt is a pediatric clinical nurse specialist and advocate for nurses and nursing practice. Her primary research focus is implementation science; specifically, exploring the factors influencing the research-to-practice gap in acute and critical care settings, and testing implementation strategies targeting the interprofessional team to improve the uptake of evidence-based care. She is currently appointed to the National Clinician Scholars program at the University of Michigan and is funded by the scholars program and an NHLBI K12 grant focused on implementation science under the mentorship of Drs. Jack Iwashyna and Anne Sales. Her dissertation research examined the association between nurse staffing and the nurse work environment and burn patient mortality. She is a recognized national burn nursing expert by the American Burn Association (ABA) and a current member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) board of directors. She is the pediatric quality improvement contributing editor for AACN’s journal Critical Care Nurse.
Prior to joining the University of Michigan faculty, Dr. Bettencourt completed a NINR T32 training fellowship in outcomes research in the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania with Dr. Linda H. Aiken. Dr. Bettencourt is an experienced educator, teaching various topics in nursing, leadership, quality improvement, and research to student and professional audiences. Dr. Bettencourt has successfully mentored Nursing and Health Education students at the baccalaureate and master’s levels. In addition to the classroom setting, Dr. Bettencourt is consistently on the educational faculty for professional education courses at the AACN National Teaching and Advanced Practice Institute, the ABA Annual Meeting, and the Emergency Nurses’ Association conference.
