When Kate Demutis came to Penn Nursing as a graduate student, she was most grateful for the incredible preceptors that helped her transition between school and clinical practice. Today, she is paying it forward. With Penn Nursing being one of the only advanced degree nursing schools in the country to match students with clinical placements and precepting relationships, Kate coordinates those placements and, as testament to the value she found in the program, is a preceptor herself.
April 13th brought over a hundred people together at Fagin Hall to celebrate the launch of Penn Nursing’s Innovating for Life and Living Campaign. Hosted by Dean Antonia Villarruel
, guests included members of the Board of Overseers and other volunteer leaders, students and alumni – including all Penn Nursing recipients of the Penn President’s Engagement Prize, many faculty and friends, and Dean Emerita, Dr. Afaf Meleis.
As part of course NURS 354 - Addressing the Social Determinants of Health: Community Engagement Immersion, Penn Nursing juniors Isabel Braun and Morgan Shick spent time each week at Kensington Health Sciences Academy
(KHSA) working with teenage students, and together, prepared these students for their final exam. Isabel shared her thoughts and the process behind developing the exam-prep boot camp with Morgan and reflected on the experience overall. Penn’s involvement at KHSA is part of the Penn Futures Project
