Social Justice

The mission of the Women’s Health Gender Related Nurse Practitioner program is to work to create a learning environment that is free from racism and dedicated to social justice and equity. Additionally we aspire to create an environment which is inclusive for all individuals across the gender spectrum, and we want this to be the framework from which we learn in the classroom. Sexual & reproductive health, pregnancy, and birth are experienced by individuals, couples, and families from multiple gender identities.

Teaching

Director of the Women’s Health and Gender Related Nurse Practitioner Program. I was previously faculty for the CDC funded STD/HIV Prevention Training Center for a 9 state region in the Southeastern US for 9 years.  In this capacity I trained health care providers from all disciplines in best practices for STD and HIV diagnosis and management.

Research

I have been involved in clinical research as a coordinator and then manager for the past 13 years.  During this period I participated in pharmaceutical trials for chemotherapeutic agents and novel treatments for resistant Gonorrhea, Bacterial Vaginosis and Candida species.  I also participated in multiple qualitative and epidemiologic studies of Black WSW (women who have sex with women) looking at risk perception, behaviors and STD acquisition.
