Victoria Ferguson, a certified nurse-midwife at Pennsylvania Hospital, and a graduate of Penn Nursing’s Midwifery program, discusses the work of nurse-midwives and how they help women and families during what is perhaps the most important and stressful time of their lives.

In the Book of Exodus, it was written that the pharaoh of Egypt, terrified of the multiplying and flourishing Israelis, ordered the murder of all newborn Hebrew sons, “but the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the men children alive.”
“Every midwife knows that quote,” says Victoria Ferguson, a certified nurse-midwife at Pennsylvania Hospital. “We do the right thing and we advocate for our patients, regardless of who’s telling us what to do.”
