Wharton China Center Holds Nursing Symposium

Penn Nursing’s Dean Antonia Villarruel and Dr. Jianghong Liu, Associate Professor of Nursing, traveled to the Penn Wharton China Center (PWCC) to participate in the nursing symposium, Nursing Leadership Across the Care Continuum, hosted by Penn Nursing and CGFNS International at PWCC.

July 24, 2015

Joining Dean Villarruel and Dr. Liu at the symposium were Franklin Shaffer, CEO of CGFNS International, Dr. Michael Bleich, President of the Board of Trustees for CGFNS International and Dean and Professor at Barnes Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing, and Dr. Guifang Guo, Dean and Professor at Peking University’s School of Nursing. The symposium was scheduled at the state-of-the-art facility in Beijing as part of PWCC’s celebration of its first 100 days of operation since opening on March 10th. More than 70 people were in attendance.

The symposium kicked off with a reception and opening remarks from Dean Villarruel, and Dr. Bleich, and then began in earnest on the 30th with a detailed presentation by Dean Villarruel on nursing and health care trends in the U.S., challenges and opportunities in nursing and higher education, and the wide array of opportunities and need for greater leadership in nursing education.

“It was wonderful to see Dean Villarruel welcoming nursing leaders and colleagues from both China and the U.S. as they visited ‘our home’ at the Penn Wharton China Center,” said Dr. Liu, “and it was a great platform for the international nursing community to interact and engage in stimulating dialogue focused on the future of nursing care.”
