Important Clinical Guideline Co-authored by Compher

Charlene Compher, PhD, RD, LDN, FASPEN, wrapped up a highly productive six-year term as Editor in Chief of Clinical Guidelines for the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.) with a final, extremely influential clinical guideline.

The A.S.P.E.N. organization is comprised of multi-disciplinary healthcare professionals dedicated to improving the science and practice of nutrition support and metabolism.

The “Guidelines for the Provision and Assessment of Nutrition Support Therapy in the Adult Critically Ill Patient: Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM) and American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (A.S.P.E.N.)” published in the Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (40 (2): 189-211; 2016) advise healthcare professionals who work with adult patients in intensive care units on best practice approaches to nutrition care decisions.

“This impressive series of practice recommendations was a herculean effort for the 15-member author team,” said Compher. “This long anticipated publication sets the standard for best practice decisions in the US and globally.”
