ENRS Names Chao a ‘Rising Star’

Penn Nursing’s Ariana Chao, PhD, CRNP, Assistant Professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Health Sciences, will be awarded with the 2020 Rising Star Research Award from the Eastern Nursing Research Society (ERNS), during its 32nd Annual Scientific Sessions (virtual this year) in Boston, Massachusetts, March 26-27, 2020.  This award recognizes a Junior Investigator that has shown promise in establishing a program of health and/or nursing research.

“It is such a great honor to be selected as the 2020 recipient of the Rising Star Research Award. I highly appreciate ENRS’ efforts and support in inspiring quality research among early career scientists,” said Chao. “Receiving the award has deepened my commitment to continue research to improve care for individuals with obesity and eating disorders.”

Chao’s program of research is dedicated to examining bio-behavioral mechanisms related to obesity, addictive-like eating behaviors, and binge eating disorder. She translates her findings into innovative clinical strategies to improve treatment for people with these conditions. Her research has been published in Journals that reach a wide an interdisciplinary readership including Clinical Obesity, Obesity, Journal of Nursing Scholarship, and Journal of Behavioral Medicine, among others. She earned her PhD from Yale University, and a MSN and BSN from Boston College.
