Penn Nursing Updates - Week of February 15th: IMPORTANT Updates to Quarantining and More

Information Updates

 

  • IMPORTANT COVID NOTIFICATION REMINDERS – As part of the Penn Nursing Student COVID-19 Clinical Compact, all nursing students agreed to the following conditions: (Please remember that submitting this notification remains a requirement and helps ensure everyone’s safety)

 

  • NEW UPDATES REGARDING QUARANTINE AND ISOLATION:
    • Effective February 16, 2021, in connection with U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Philadelphia Department of Public Health public health guidance, and based on Penn’s spring semester experience, the University announced a reduction in quarantine length from 14 days to 10 days. People who are vaccinated against COVID-19 will no longer need to quarantine after being exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19 if they meet all of the following criteria: (Please continue to visit the coronavirus.upenn.edu website for further updates)
    • They are fully vaccinated (i.e., ≥2 weeks following receipt of the second dose in a 2-dose series, or ≥2 weeks following receipt of one dose of a single-dose vaccine),
    • They are within 3 months following receipt of the last dose in the series, and
    • They do not present with symptoms of COVID-19 and have a green PennOpen Pass

 

  • NOW AVAILABLE – Upload Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination:
    • Students should see a new section in Complio for entering the COVID-19 vaccination. If you have received the COVID vaccine, please upload proof of your vaccination to Complio.
    • Notify Student Health Services (SHS) of proof of vaccination by uploading all documentation to the online student health services portal. If you have questions, please reach out to the Immunization Office at immun@pobox.upenn.edu. SHS must see your proof of vaccination with exact dates of the vaccine administration to determine whether you need to quarantine or not (as per the above quarantine update).

 

  • COVID-19 Vaccine Readiness Survey for SON: Penn Nursing will play a vital role in the COVID-19 vaccine roll out. We want to hear from you about the COVID-19 vaccine. Click here to take the survey and make your voice heard today. Our goal is to hear from every member of the Penn Nursing community. Currently, the survey is only for Penn Nursing affiliated faculty, staff, students, and alumni. If you have any questions, please reach out to Dr. Melanie Kornides at kornides@nursing.upenn.edu.

 

  • ATI NCLEX Resources for Penn Nursing BSN May 2021 graduates: Penn Nursing has continued its contract with Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) to offer students tools to prepare more efficiently, increase confidence, and identify areas necessary for review in order to successfully pass the NCLEX-RN exam. BSN May 2021 graduates should have received a Canvas invitation to watch the webinar recording to familiarize yourself with the resources you will have from this ATI package. If you have not received this Canvas invitation, please email Dann Truitt at dannt@nursing.upenn.edu. *Note, more information is forthcoming via Canvas including when the practice assessments will open and will be ready for use.

  • Please check your email box from last week for emails from Nursing Dean about School of Nursing Faculty Award nominations and from me about Student Graduation Award nominations. Deadlines are approaching and we look forward to receiving your nominations!

 

  • Staying Involved at Penn Nursing: As a reminder, all students have an opportunity to get involved at Penn Nursing. On, Wednesday 2/17/2021, the existing Penn Nursing student organizations met with Dean Sochalski and Dean Costanzo to discuss: Fall 2021 block scheduling changes, Updates to quarantining, Updates to any potential COVID-19 campus 3 alert notifications, and student award nominations .   • Monday, February 22 - 3-Day Virtual Conference - Advancing best practices and emerging research in AYA cancer care and support: The University of Texas MD Anderson AYA Oncology Program presents this 3-day conference, each day focused on a theme affecting AYA cancer patients and survivors. Whether you’re focused on research, patient care, or program development, there’s something in this conference for you.   • Wednesday, February 24 - Research and Innovation Colloquium: The Office of Nursing Research invites all students to the next virtual colloquium event, Tips from the Field: Creating Data Safety Monitoring Plans and Working with Data Safety Monitoring Boards. This session is eligible for Responsible Conduct for Research (RCR) credit. All attendees must pre-register online to attend and can view more information from past colloquium’s online.

 

  • Wednesday, February 24 – Refugee Eye Conditions Lecture: Last semester many of you helped shape an educational module on eye conditions in refugee children. The Penn Medicine Refugee Health Interest Group now invites you to a lunch talk about common ophthalmic conditions in the pediatric refugee population. This educational module is designed to raise awareness of ophthalmic conditions that can affect the patients you may encounter as a future provider.   • Wednesday, February 24 (& ongoing) Weekly Virtual Financial Aid Student Hours: All nursing students are invited to sign on with the Financial Aid team each Wednesday this Spring. The team welcomes all inquiries, and plans to respond ‘generally’ to protect personal information (specific follow up will be scheduled with a 1:1 appointment).   • Thursday, February 25 – Panel: The Story and Impact of Filipino Migrant Nurses – Hosted by Penn Nursing Alumni: Penn Nursing Alumni hosts a conversation based on the book A Good Provider is One Who Leaves, from the Penn Nursing Alumni Book Club.   • Friday, March 5 – Virtual Graduate Open House: Join faculty and admissions staff for a virtual open house on our MSN and Nurse Anesthesia DNP programs. You will have the opportunity to attend two sessions on your program(s) of interest and an information session on admissions and financial aid. You are not required to stay the entire time to join the different sessions. Pre-registration is required online and please visit the event website to view the day’s agenda.

 

  • Saturday, March 27 - The Pennsylvania Coalition of Nurse Practitioners (PCNP) is holding a virtual Student Symposium designed to help Nurse Practitioner students who are at or nearing their transition from student to practice. Students can learn more about the Symposium and can register through the event website. The cost of the event is $50 for PCNP members and $100 for non-members - non-members receive a PCNP membership for one year. The attendees are provided an electronic booklet containing valuable information and resources to help them navigate the next steps in their career.
