SON Updates and Introducing “Student Hours” starting Wednesday, July 15th
Dear School of Nursing Students,
On Thursday, July 9th, President Gutmann sent to the Penn community a statement of support in regards to our international student community. If you have not yet viewed this statement, you can do so here in its entirety.
This recent decision by the federal government has made us review many facets of our Fall semester planning. Yet, what has not changed, is the School of Nursing’s [SON] commitment to your successes in and out of the classroom. Your faculty are working hard to bring you inclusive and engaging remote learning experiences and your staff are working hard to make sure you are safe and have the support you need.
Among the current top priorities are ensuring:
- The safety of our international student community through working with the University’s International Student and Scholar Services [ISSS]
- A safe return to clinical and simulation experiences
- A safe return to campus. The SON has asked the University whether continuing clinical after Thanksgiving would be permissible if students remain in Philadelphia during the Thanksgiving break. We recognize that this has implications for on-campus housing and are clarifying that option as well.
- A safe return to Fagin Hall and the PennOpen Pass, a digital tool/app for daily symptom checks to reduce the risk of COVID-19 to the Penn community and beyond. First, you must enroll in PennOpen Pass. Please follow the steps outlined online and attached to this email.
Beginning on Wednesday, July 15th, Associate Dean, Dr. Julie Sochalski, will offer the first of regular opportunities for all nursing students to join virtual “student hours.”
Wednesday, July 15
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Virtual “Student Hours” with Associate Dean Sochalski – sign on to ask any question you might have, get an answer, and either stay to listen to remaining Q&A, or sign off until next time.
As we have shared in previous emails, please know that we are available throughout the summer via virtual appointments or email. You can find a full listing of departmental contacts online here.
