Pass/Fail Policy for Spring 2020

Dear Graduate Students,

On March 20, 2020 Provost Wendell Pritchett issued a message stating a change in the pass/fail policy to be enacted for all undergraduate courses and for all PhD courses for Spring 2020 only. This policy applies to courses that count toward degrees awarded by the University, that include the BSN and PhD.

Application of this pass-fail policy change for Spring 2020 to Masters/Professional Degree programs is the province of individual schools.

For the Spring 2020 term:

  • All APRN programs (MSN—CRNP and Midwifery as well as DNP-Nurse Anesthesia) will follow the pass/fail rules as outlined in the student handbook.
  • Only the MSN students in Nursing and Health Care Administration and Health Leadership as well as the Post-MSN DNP students will be allowed to select pass/fail for their courses

This decision was made because we cannot anticipate nor accommodate the full range of regulatory, certification, and accreditation issues that might arise from allowing these programs to move to pass/fail grading. For those students in the Nursing and Health Care Administration, Health Leadership, and Post-MNS DNP Programs, the deadline to select the pass/fail grading option for a course is April 13th.

We hope you are safe and well during this challenging time. Additionally, we are committed to providing updates as soon as it is possible to do so.

Please email advisor@nursing.upenn.edu if you have any questions or would like to schedule a remote appointment.

Take good care,
