The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) has created a guide for University of Pennsylvania faculty with strategies, tools, and resources to help begin their planning. View the remote teaching guide .

Staying in Touch with your Students
In addition to the course Canvas site, each Nursing course is equipped with a class mailing list available through Courses InTouch , which can be used to send email messages to all students registered for the course. Learn more about using your class mailing list .

To determine your students’ access and the best strategies for your course, consider a brief student survey. As this can entail collecting sensitive information, please be sure to use a secure Penn-approved platform such as Canvas.

Students needing assistance to acquire the IT equipment they need to take classes virtually may complete an Emergency and Opportunity Fund Application.

Remote Desktop Options
There are several remote desktop options available based on your operating system. Nursing ITS has created the following guides to help navigate these options:
Managing Email and Calendaring
Penn O365 Email/Calendar
Remote options are available for email and calendaring through Penn O365. Available options include Outlook configuration and accessing email through a web browser via webmail.

Managing Phone and Voicemail
The PennNet Phone Service (PPS) is a web service that allows you to manage certain telephone features and voice mail options from a web browser. This includes managing voicemail settings, forwarding a phone line to a different number, and other features.
Collaborating with Colleagues
Microsoft Teams is a centralized portal for communication methods including instant messaging, team meetings, video conferencing, and file sharing. Teams is available to all PennO365 users (including at the School of Nursing) and integrates with other O365 tools such as calendars, contacts, OneDrive storage, SharePoint sites, and OneNote.
BlueJeans is a videoconferencing service that works on your desktop or mobile device. Meet and share documents with colleagues in any location. BlueJeans is available to all users with a Nursing account (meeting scheduling and sharing), and meetings can be shared with individuals at Nursing and externally.
Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing platform that allows users to host online meetings, participate in group messaging, and share video and audio content. Zoom works on desktop, laptop and mobile operating systems.
Penn+Box is Penn’s cloud-based collaboration service for securely managing and sharing files and folders within the Penn community and externally. Users can access, create, manage, and distribute content across various device types and operating systems.
OneDrive is a cloud-based collaboration service for securely managing and sharing files and folders and is available to all Penn O365 users (including at the School of Nursing).
