On November 4th over Homecoming Weekend, the Association of Latino Alumni and La Casa Latina presented an afternoon conversation with Margaret Bond Simon Dean of Nursing Antonia Villarruel, GNu’82, and the 2017 President’s Engagement Prize Winners Yaneli Arizmendi, Nu’17, GNu’19, Alexa Salas, C’17, and Camilo Toro, C’17. The speakers discussed the positive trajectory of the Penn Latinx community, and spotlighted the President’s Engagement Prize project, Lanzando Líderes (or Launching Leaders), a community-based after-school program for Latino high school students in South Philadelphia, for which Dean Villarruel is serving as mentor.
