Lecturer

Dr. Sue Utterback is an innovative nurse leader with a passion for improving care for birthing patients and their families. In her current role as Director of Women’s Services at Jefferson Abington Hospital, she leads efforts to drive patient-centered, equitable perinatal care and integrate technology to improve access, safety, and quality. Past positions include Inpatient LDRP Staff RN, Nursing Systems Coordinator, Maternal Child Services Clinical Manager, Clinical Informatics Specialist, and eLearning Development Specialist. Dr. Utterback achieved a Diploma in Nursing from Abington Hospital School of Nursing; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Gwynedd Mercy University; a Master of Science in Instructional Technology from Bloomsburg University; and a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Systems Leadership from Thomas Edison State University.

Dr. Utterback is co-director of the Jefferson Women and Children’s Safety and Quality Council and is a member of the Opioid task forces for the Jefferson Health System and Jefferson Abington Hospital; the Jefferson Abington Hospital Evidence-Based Practice Shared Governance Council; and the Pennsylvania Perinatal Quality Collaborative. She was awarded the Klein Award for Innovation in nursing at Jefferson Abington Hospital for her work to improve pain management and reduce opioid use through the Enhanced Recovery after Cesarean Program. She has completed many professional presentations; serves as adjunct faculty and mentor, including as a lecturer in the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing DNP program; and holds memberships in AWHONN; Pennsylvania Organization of Nurse Leaders; and Sigma Theta Tau International.
