Mpho Petros, a 2021 recipient of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, joined Penn Nursing for a one-month virtual training opportunity under the mentorship of Ariana M. Chao, PhD, CRNP, Assistant Professor of Nursing and Monique Dowd, MA, RD, LDN, CDCES, CSG, Senior Lecturer.

Mpho Petros has more than five years of experience in health and nutrition with the Botswana Ministry of Health and Wellness and UNICEF. Currently working as a teacher with the Botswana Ministry of Basic Education, she educates adolescent girls on health and nutrition and encourages them to take control of their own health. Previously, through her work with UNICEF, Mpho supported the Government of Botswana’s capacity to address child poverty at all levels. Mpho believes that being healthy enables children and other age groups to live life to their full potential, and she aspires to utilize her full potential to benefit the health of others in her home country.
