Why were you interested in the Penn Global Nursing Fellowship opportunity?

Partners in Health is rooted in a belief that health is a human right. I deeply believe that nursing is a form of activism – a way to practice social justice and infuse equity into the healthcare setting. This shared ethos was such a source of inspiration for me.

How were your background and skills the right match for the needs of your host organization?

Nursing for me is the start of a beautiful second career. Before I became a nurse, I supported various global public health efforts in surgical safety and maternal health through program design, implementation, and evaluation. This fellowship was an opportunity for me to apply my public health skills to support the field of nursing beyond the clinical setting.

How did your Fellowship experience meet, exceed, and/or fall short of your expectations?

My fellowship experience exceeded my expectations. The nursing team at PIH is truly a special team to work with.

Do you feel you made an impact on the work of your host organization and, if yes, how?

I do think I made an impact. Specifically, we worked collaboratively to develop a monitoring and evaluation plan that allows this important work to measure and describe its impact.

Did you experience any personal and/or professional gains from this experience?

As the fellowship wrapped up, the PIH nursing team asked me to stay on in a consulting role to help with impact evaluation beyond the GNEF. I feel so honored that the team appreciated my contributions enough to allow me to continue working with the team and continue learning from them!

Do you have any photos / videos from the experience you would like to share?

Do you have a favorite memory you would like to share?

My favorite memory is the greater experience of watching incredible nurse leaders from low- and middle-income countries overcome immense challenges to not only complete the fellowship and grow in their leadership skills, but to support each other across the world.

Is there an accomplishment that brought you particular pride?

Delivering the final evaluation report that enabled the team to quantify their impact. I find it so satisfying to help teams tell their stories.
