Rachel Ohrenschall served as a community health volunteer with Peace Corps Burkina Faso from 2016-2017. She lived in a village in Southern Burkina Faso among the Gurunci ethnic group where she learned to speak the local dialect, Nuni, as well as French. Her main projects in village included a youth sexual and reproductive health club at the middle school, as well as handwashing and nutrition educational sessions including songs and games with elementary school students. She also worked with women’s groups in village to produce liquid soap and a mosquito repellent cream made from local ingredients, and held weekly talks at the clinic with pregnant women during prenatal visits about sustaining healthy pregnancies through nutrition and malaria prevention.
