Nursing & Midwifery Response to the COVID Pandemic: A Virtual Multinational Exchange
Offered for the first time in spring 2021, this course presents a new, invigorating view of international exchange using class time in a fresh new way. It uses a model called “COIL” – Collaborative Online International Learning. This course is available to Penn students – nursing, midwifery, and others across campus who are interested in healthcare and professional roles. Penn students will be joined by students from other countries that can include Australia, Ireland, and Norway.
Structure / Details:
- Large hour-long seminars featuring internationally prominent guests from nursing, midwifery, medicine, and public health
- After seminars, students meet in small groups, organized to ensure a consistent mix of peers from all four countries, providing an opportunity to make meaningful international connections
- Activities include field work to learn about nursing and midwifery practice changes, sharing field work with peers, and developing syntheses of best practices
