Maria Torchia LoGrippo, PhD, RN, MSN, NE-BC
As Practice Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Health and Assistant Dean of Curricular Affairs and Innovation in the School of Nursing, Dr. LoGrippo is an influencer and thought leader in designing innovative programs and care models for nursing practice, education, and leadership. Priorities include embedding into the curriculum the essential domains for both undergraduate and graduate education to equip our graduates with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to be effective leaders in the provision of high quality, safe, and equitable care for individuals and populations.

LoGrippo’s doctoral work focused on perceptions of trust and stress among English and Spanish speaking pregnant women receiving care from certified nurse midwives. This community-based research helped to inform her future work to improve access and equity through nursing leadership and education. She is committed to working with leaders at Penn to deliver action oriented approaches for advancing social justice throughout the curriculum and providing real solutions for addressing health equity and access.
Dr. LoGrippo has served as a nurse expert nationally promoting seamless academic progression models to increase access to higher education and to support collaborative partnerships across nursing programs. Her teaching experiences include facilitating learning in both didactic and clinical courses in adult health, leadership, and community health. At Penn, Dr. LoGrippo intends to infuse leadership training across the curriculum as well as expand community health engagement and population health management experiences for students.
Program of research involves developing teaching strategies and appropriate evaluative methods for nursing educational programs. Through funded research, she facilitated embedding population health competencies into nursing curriculum as well as designed curriculum that integrates behavioral health into primary care. She seeks an understanding and a new way of thinking about leading in the community.
