Ann Lawrence O’Sullivan, PhD, FAAN, CRNP, the Dr. Hildegarde Reynolds Endowed Term Professor of Primary Care Nursing and Professor of Primary Care Nursing, Perelman School of Medicine, will be transitioning in just a few days on June 30, 2021 after an incredible 48 years(!) of service to the University and School. She will continue to mentor and support our DNP students.
Bridgette M. Brawner, PhD, MDiv, APRN, Associate Professor, and Marcus Henderson, MSN, RN, Lecturer, both from Penn Nursing’s Department of Family and Community Health, have been appointed to the American Nurses Association (ANA)’s National Commission to Address Racism in Nursing.

The award is given biennially to a Penn Nursing faculty member or a graduate from the School’s doctoral program who has made a distinguished contribution to nursing through scholarly practice. It honors Norma M. Lang, PhD, the Professor and Dean Emerita of Penn Nursing for her world-renowned contributions to health policy and practice. The 7th Norma L. Lang Lecture will take place on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, 3:00 – 5:00 pm in the Ann L. Roy Auditorium.
In less than three months, a special fund to support professional development for part-time Primary Care Nurse Practitioner faculty at Penn Nursing eclipsed it’s $15,000 goal—and honored Ann L. Sullivan, PhD, FAAN, CRNP, for whom the fund is named.
The Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC) honors research led by Anne Teitelman, PhD, FNP-BC, FAANP, FAAN, Associate Professor Emerita in Penn Nursing’s Department of Family and Community Health, as the 2021 JANAC (Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care) Article of the Year.
Data show that young adult women in the United States have high rates of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that increase their risk of HIV. Though epidemiologic and behavioral factors for risk have been studied, we know very little about brain factors that may be linked to STI/ HIV sexual risk.
The International Society of Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurses (ISPN) recently awarded Penn Nursing’s Bridgette M. Brawner, PhD, MDiv, APRN, Associate Professor in the Department of Family and Community Health, its Diversity and Equity Award. The award was presented during the ISPN 23rd Annual Virtual Conference on March 24. Brawner will present the Diversity/Equity lecture at next year’s conference.
