Teaching
Ms. Leary creates curriculum focused on nursing innovation and the foundation of design thinking. Currently she teaches the Innovation in Health: Foundations of Design Thinking course and was an Instructor in the Penn Master of Public Health program where she taught methods implementation and public health communication. She was also the Co-Course Director for the Penn Nursing Research Residency program.
Research
Her research and education over the past twelve years has focused on cardiac arrest and CPR quality with the current goal of developing innovative strategies to improve bystander response and CPR training.

Involved in several interdisciplinary committees focused on increasing innovation and entrepreneurship in nursing and health/healthcare, Marion Leary is a member of the Penn Innovation and Entrepreneurship Group and sits on the Executive Board of the Penn Health Tech committee.

- In 2017, Marion Leary was named Philadelphia’s Geek of the Year by Geekadelphia, Generocity and Technical.ly PHL for her outstanding achievements in Philadelphia’s vibrant geek community in the areas of innovation, technology, and activism.
- She is a recent member of the American Nurses Association’s Innovation Advisory Committee and a Founding member of the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs and Leaders (SONSIEL).
- Ms. Leary is an international Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA) and currently serves on their Digital Communications Working Group. She is also a board member of Citizen CPR Foundation and servers on the programming committee for the Emergency Cardiovascular Care Updates Conference.
- She is a recent member of the American Nurses Association’s Innovation Advisory Committee and a Founding member of the Society of Nurse Scientists, Innovators, Entrepreneurs and Leaders (SONSIEL).

Forwarding Nurse-Led Innovation
In order for nurses to lead in health and health care innovation, schools of nursing and nursing programs must think strategically about the knowledge and skills the next generation of nurses will need and then support those innovation needs at all levels of research, education, and practice.
