Pamela B. de Cordova, PhD, RN-BC

Dr. Pamela de Cordova is an associate professor in nursing at Rutgers, the State University of NJ. She also works as Faculty Researcher for the state-legislated New Jersey Collaboration Center (NJCCN.org) studying issues concerning the nursing workforce in the state. She obtained her PhD from Columbia University School of Nursing in 2011 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research (CHOPR) in 2013. She maintains strong ties with CHOPR in that she continually receives mentorship and collaborates with CHOPR faculty. Trained in health services research, Dr. de Cordova’s program of research includes examining the relationship between off-shift nursing care and its association to patient outcomes. In 2016, she received a K08 Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Award from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to evaluate public reporting staffing policies aimed at improving patient safety in acute care hospitals. Recently, she has begun to examine public reporting mandates as it applies to preventing healthcare-associated infections in hospitals. Dr. de Cordova has over 18 years of active clinical experience in post-operative nursing care; this background has allowed her to directly provide care to hospitalized patients and provide her with perspective on the powerful impact of research and policy on improving quality in hospitals.
