M. Consuelo Cerón Mackay, BSN, MSc Educational Psychology, Diploma in Management of Higher Education Institutions. At the beginning of my professional career, I worked for 4 years as a nurse in an Intensive Care Unit in a Pediatric Hospital. I then joined the School of Nursing at Universidad de los Andes as a faculty member to teach in the Pediatrics course, both in the classroom and in the clinical setting. For 2 years, I was on secondment to work with the Vice Chancellor on different projects related to the development of our University. In 2010 I was appointed Director of the School of Nursing and then in 2015 Dean of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery at Universidad de los Andes until September 2021. During my tenure as Dean, our School of Nursing has been accredited with 7 years, the maximum, by the National Accreditation Board of Chilean Universities, we have opened the School of Midwifery, and expanded the area of Continuing Education and Postgraduate programs. In addition, since the opening of the Obstetrics undergraduate program 6 years ago, the school has had a rapid growth in the number of students, being today the second preference of students in Chile.

I am currently an associate professor in the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery and a first year PhD student in Nursing at the McMaster University School of Nursing. My research interest is to contribute to the development and implementation of the role of Advanced Practice Nursing in Latin America.

In the last five years, along with my responsibilities as dean, I have actively participated in the Chilean Association of Nursing Education and in the Technical Group for the Development of Advanced Practice Nursing Competencies in Latin American countries. I have led the development of the first Advanced Practice Nursing program in our country and have been invited to make presentations on advanced practice nursing at international meetings/congresses. During 2018, I have actively participated in the advisory board of the Ministry of Health for the establishment of the role of Advanced Practice Nursing within the oncology health team as part of the National Cancer Plan in our country. I am also a Senior Researcher at the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research at the University of Pennsylvania and was part of the research team of the RN4CAST-Chile Project 2016-2019. The objective of this project was to establish the impact of nurse workload on patient outcomes. Finally, as a doctoral student in nursing, I am part of the Canadian Centre for Advanced Practice Nursing Research at Mc Master’s University.
