New Scholarship For Non-Traditional Penn Nursing Students
Penn Nursing alumna Thelma I. Wenner passed away at the age of 84 in March 2020, leaving a bequest to Penn Nursing to launch the Thelma I. Wenner Scholarship Fund. This new scholarship provides an exciting new financial aid resource for Penn Nursing undergraduate students—particularly those who are non-traditional students—who have financial need.

“Penn Nursing is committed to diversifying the future nursing workforce to ensure that nurses themselves come from backgrounds as varied as the populations they serve,” says Margaret Bond Simon Dean of Nursing Antonia M. Villarruel, PhD, RN, FAAN. “Scholarships like the Thelma I. Wenner Scholarship Fund help us to make a Penn Nursing education affordable for excellent scholars, no matter their economic or life circumstances—and I am always grateful when our alumni make it a point to pay it forward after they pass on. What a great legacy Thelma leaves.”
