Student Nurses at Penn Make Impressive Showing at Virtual Convention

The Student Nurses at Penn (SNAP) were a powerhouse at the 68th Annual Convention of the Student Nurses’ Association of Pennsylvania held November 18-20, 2020.

Prerecorded workshops were available for viewing in the two weeks leading up to the convention, with attendees being able to interact with workshop speakers during the live component of convention. This year’s Keynote Address was given by Dean of the Widener School of Nursing Anne Krouse PhD, MBA, RN-BC, and was entitled “Nurses at the Forefront of Chaos: How Leadership Makes a Difference.”

Penn Nursing students took home a number of awards and scholarships:

Awards

  • Faculty Advisor of the Year: Diane L. Spatz, PhD, RN-BC, FAAN
  • Leader of Tomorrow: Lindsay Krott
  • Rena Lawrence Award: Julia Ann Kennedy
  • John Palmer: Jamie Thiel Legislative Award

Scholarships

A total of three first-year student scholarships were awarded. Penn won two of the three:

  • Huseyin Cakiri: First Year Scholarship sponsored by Main Line Health
  • Daisy Tao: First Year Scholarship sponsored by Michael S. and Carol Toussie Weingarten

A total of seven upperclassman student scholarships were awarded: Penn won five of the seven:

  • Claire Hennessey: Upperclassman Scholarship sponsored by Geisinger
  • Lindsay Krott: Upperclassman Scholarship sponsored by Geisinger
  • John Palmer: Upperclassman Scholarship sponsored by PSNA
  • Julia Ann Kennedy: Upperclassman Scholarship sponsored by Michael S. and Carol Toussie Weingarten
  • Charlotte Cecarelli: Upperclassman scholarship Sponsored by Michael S. and Carol Toussie Weingarten

New officers for the state board were also elected:

  • John Palmer is the Legislative Coordinator
  • Charlotte Cecarelli is the Greater Philadelphia Regional Coordinator
