Penn Nursing Update - Week of January 17th

Dear Penn Nursing Students,

I hope the first couple of weeks of the Spring semester is faring you well! As we prepare to resume in-person classes on Monday, January 24th, I wanted to reiterate some information updates regarding the university’s COVID policies and the School of Nursing’s plans.

Information Updates

  • Message to all members of the Penn Community sent on 1/20/22: Please read the President and Interim Provost’s important message to the University community online here.
  • Penn Nursing’s Plans for the Spring 2022 Semester:
    • Didactic/Lecture/science lab courses that were scheduled to be in-person for the Spring 2022 semester will resume in-person starting on January 24th.
    • In-person OAA advising and financial aid meetings are by appointment only. Virtual appointments will continue to be offered. Appointment types may vary by individual, so please reach out via email to schedule an appointment rather than by dropping by in-person to any offices.
  • Information about COVID Testing for Spring 2022 is included in the President and Interim Provost’s message. Please be sure to read the email carefully. All students must complete Gateway Testing as we return to campus. Thereafter, all fully vaccinated students will be required to test every other week. Failure to Gateway test or complete bi-weekly screening tests will result in students receiving a RED PennOpen Pass.
  • COVID-19 Booster Shots: As announced by the President, COVID-19 booster shots will be required for all faculty, staff, students, and post-docs. More information about this requirement can be found here. If you have received your COVID-19 booster already, please follow the directions in the President and Interim Provost’s message to upload that information to your Student Health portal.
  • COVID-19 Mitigation Measures: The University will continue to require masking indoors, the use of PennOpen Pass daily, and regular screen testing of the Penn community for the Spring 2022 semester. Guidelines for events and student organization meetings have been updated at this website. Please note the masking requirements below and in the President and Provost’s message.
    • Double masking is now required (layer a cloth mask on top of a disposable mask) or wear a KN95 or N95 mask.

CONTACTING THE OAA: As a reminder, we encourage students to refer to the contact table below for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Now for a bit of good news, COVID positivity rates across campus have gone down in the past week. As of 1/15/2022, the campus positivity rate was 6.91% down from 13.47% the week prior. While these numbers still remain high, we hope to see those numbers continue to decline and I will update you on the latest numbers in my next email. The pandemic has proven challenging for many of us in so many different ways, and we are remain thankful for your collective effort in following our public health guidelines.

I look forward to seeing you on campus this week! Stay warm – it’s cold out there today…….
