Accelerated BSN-PhD Admissions

The Hillman Scholars Program in Nursing Innovation is a direct-to-PhD program that is open to incoming accelerated BSN students and current traditional BSN students in their sophomore or junior year of study. 

Please note that each group has a different application process and timeline, and see below for instructions on how to apply.

For incoming accelerated BSN students

A complete application package consists of the following: 

  • Two completed online applications: first, the Accelerated BSN Second Degree application, followed by the Accelerated Hillman BSN-PhD application (all of your demographic and academic information will auto-populate into the second application)
  • PhD essay: to be  uploaded as part of your online application
  • Letters of recommendation:  one recommendation must be from someone academic, and we strongly encourage you to choose your recommenders carefully, the more knowledgeably they can speak to your abilities and chances of success in our program, the better; these must be submitted online, without exception, through the online application
  • College transcripts: including transcripts for any classes you might have taken at a community college or while studying abroad (send via email or via mail to the addresses listed below)
  • Official GRE scores: completed within the last five (5) years; if you are taking the GREs in October, but before November 1st, we will accept the scores, but this might delay processing your application (submit scores to Institution Code 2926 or 2911)
  • Interviews: our Program Coordinator will contact you if you are chosen for an interview; the interview will be with a faculty selection committee

The deadline to apply for the 2018 program is October 16, 2017.

For current 4-year traditional BSN students and accelerated BSN students

A complete application package consists of the following: 

  • A completed online application
  • PhD essay: to be  uploaded as part of your online application
  • Three letters of recommendation:  we require one academic from a standing faculty member, one from an academic advisor, and one from an individual who knows you in a professional capacity; these must be submitted online, without exception, through the online application
  • Official GRE scores:  due by January 15, 2018; selection decisions are not made until we have these results (submit scores to Institution Code 2926 or 2911)
  • Interviews:  our Program Coordinator will contact you if you are chosen for an interview; the interview will be with a faculty selection committee​​

The deadline to apply for the fall of 2018 is January 5, 2018.
