Faculty Senate Committees
Appointed Standing Committees
Bylaws Committee
Assumes responsibility for oversight, revision, and review of the Bylaws of the School of Nursing. The Committee shall make recommendations to the Faculty Senate.
Doctor of Nursing Practice Curriculum Committee
Formulates all policies related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum for the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program and makes recommendations concerning these to the Faculty Senate.
Faculty Search Committee
Coordinates the School’s faculty search process and increases the School’s ability to seek out the strongest candidates for the full range of faculty positions. The Faculty Search Committee identifies and recruits candidates nationwide who enhance the School’s ability to fulfill the mission and to meet strategic goals. The Faculty Search Committee follows the University’s Faculty Appointment and Affirmative Action guidelines in all its deliberations. The Dean of the School of Nursing and the Chair of the Faculty Senate appoints members of the Faculty Search Committee.
Lecturer Advancement Review Committee (LARC)
Considers and makes recommendations regarding all matters concerning appointments, reappointments, or promotions of full-time Senior Lecturers and Advanced Senior Lecturers to the Personnel Committee and part-time Senior Lecturers and Advanced Senior Lecturers to the Dean.
Master’s Curriculum Committee
The Committee on Master’s Curriculum formulates all policies related to the development, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum for the Master’s programs and makes recommendations concerning these to the Faculty Senate.
Nutrition Curriculum Committee
The Committee on Nutrition Curriculum formulates all policies related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the nutrition curriculum for the undergraduate and graduate nutrition programs at Penn Nursing and makes recommendations to the Faculty Senate.
Practice Committee
Serves as a translational catalyst in alignment with the School of Nursing’s mission to highlight demonstrated practice excellence. This standing committee of the Faculty Senate supports promoting practice within the School of Nursing community. This community includes entities engaged in partnerships and networks with the School of Nursing doing work relevant to evidence-based practice and practice innovation within nursing, midwifery, nutrition science, public health, and other disciplines represented in the School of Nursing as well as interprofessional collaborations. The Committee responds to service opportunities and contacts referred by the Dean and Associate Deans. Further, the Committee advises the Dean, Associate Deans, and Faculty on other matters of practice referred on an ad hoc basis, sent directly to the Committee by the Dean or from the Chair of the Faculty Senate on behalf of the Faculty as a whole.
Research Committee
Examines the research mission of the School of Nursing and advise the Dean and the Faculty Senate on policies related to research. The committee shall recommend faculty development activities related to research growth; examine the long-range trajectory of nursing research in the School of Nursing and in the nation; provide a forum to examine ethical issues for researchers and make recommendations to the faculty as appropriate.
Entry to Practice Curriculum Committee
Formulates all policies related to the development, implementation, and evaluation of the entry to practice curriculum, and makes recommendations to the Faculty Senate.
Elected Standing Committees
Academic Freedom Committee
Exists to protect the academic freedom of the faculty members, both tenured and non-tenured, according to the University endorsed statement of Principles of Academic Freedom of the American Association of University Professors. It considers matters of academic responsibility as defined by the University and otherwise operates in accordance with the rules of the University Senate Committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility.
Academic Standards and Progressions Committee
Identifies, evaluates, and presents to faculty policies regarding the admission, progression, graduation, and grievance of students on both the undergraduate and master’s levels. The Committee considers individual student exceptions to established policies and provide a channel for resolution, when needed, as an appeals process for policies. The Committee provides a channel for the resolution of disagreements between students and instructors for grades granted as outlined in the BSN and MSN handbooks.
Nominations and Committee Appointments Committee
Solicits faculty interest in serving on appointed and elected committees. This includes developing a recommended slate for faculty committee appointments, including the appointed associate professor members of the Personnel Committee, for the Chair of the Faculty Senate, and tracking committee appointments and terms of appointment. The Committee prepares a slate of nominees for the Chair of the Faculty Senate and the faculty members of Elected Committees to be elected by the Faculty Senate.
Personnel Committee
Considers and makes recommendations to the Dean regarding all matters concerning faculty appointment, reappointment, promotion, and tenure. The Personnel Committee makes recommendations to the Dean regarding the academic qualifications of candidates for membership on the faculty at the rank proposed. The Committee considers all Personnel Committee policies and make recommendations to the Faculty Senate.
