Women's Health Care Studies Programs
Meet our Team

Dawn Durain, MPH, CNM
Dawn Durain, MPH, CNM, has had a longterm interest in women’s health that began
during her undergraduate work in Psychology and Women’s Studies at the
University of Pittsburgh. This led to contact with a homebirth nurse-midwife and
eventually nursing and midwifery school. She has worked as a staff nurse-midwife
at North Central Bronx Hospital, Familyborn Birth and Women’s Health Center, and
Planned Parenthood of the Mercer Area. She served as the Executive Director of
the Familyborn Birth and Women’s Health Center for several years. Her
professional activities include various officer and legislative advocacy
positions within the New Jersey Chapter of the American College of
Nurse-Midwives. Her graduate work in Public Health was completed at the Rutgers
University/University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and focused on
health policy interventions to combat racial and ethnic disparities in health
care delivery.
Dawn’s course responsibilities reflect her interest in (a) the gynecological
care of women throughout the lifespan (Well-Woman Gynecology course); (b) the
impact of health policy on both providers and clients (Public Policy course);
and (c) the role of politics in women's health, both in the United States and
throughout the world (Politics of Women's Health course).
Dawn lives in New Jersey, which in her mind, is truly the “garden state.” She
enjoys hiking, reading, and traveling.
