Women's Health Care Nurse Practitioner
As gaps in research would suggest, there is a national imperative to
identify and meet the health care needs of women and to enable them to
care for themselves and others in their family. The School of Nursing’s
Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program focuses on the primary
health care needs of women from adolescence through the advanced years,
focusing on promoting and maintaining wellness. In addition, the Program
examines influences that affect women’s lives, such as public policy,
advances in technology, and ongoing research. The curriculum addresses a
range of women’s health issues including normal pregnancy and prenatal
management including fetal evaluation, alternative medicine, clinical
management of family planning, well woman health care and menopause, and
primary care associated within women’s health.
As independent practitioners, graduates of the Women's Health Care Nurse
Practitioner Program have the autonomy to play a unique role in advancing
the well being of women today. Graduates are eligible to become certified
by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as Women's Health Care Certified
Registered Nurse Practitioners (CRNP). Successful completion of the
program qualifies graduates to apply for national certification as Women's
Health Care Nurse Practitioners by the National Certification Corporation
(NCC).
