Responsibilities of the mentor teacher
These are the responsibilities of the mentor teacher:

Share with the student teacher some of your journey to becoming an
expert teacher.

Discuss with the student both his/her and your results on the
Learning Style Inventory.

Resource student for assigned teaching exercises on home campus:
-
Assist with the identification of an appropriate area for the student
teacher to teach.

Assist in the development of objectives for the material which is to be
taught.

Participate in the decision about an appropriate teaching method for
the material.

Review the teaching plan including class content, teaching method, time
allotment, AV materials and evaluation tools.

Assist, as needed, in the development of teaching materials for the
classes to include case studies, student handouts and AV materials.
-
Observe the micro-teaching session and assist the student in the
evaluation of the session.

Be available to the student for consultation and general
resourcing concerning teaching skills.

Participate in the evaluation of the student's progress and the
efficacy of the overall program.
-
Validate the student's evaluation of his/her strengths and areas for
improvement.
-
Assist student in developing goals to be accomplished at completion of
the program.
-
Provide feedback to the student on classroom teaching skills
to include:
classroom presence, interaction with students, ability to encourage student participation,
openness to student input, degree of student learning which was observable.
At the completion of the program, provide the Teacher Education Program summary
evaluation of the student's progress, on the form provided.
