Welcome Students A very warm welcome to each and every one of you to the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. You are embarking on an exciting journey and you may come to many turning points. As with all journeys, you bring with you a wealth of experience and excess baggage. You may need much of what you have brought with you, but do not let it encumber you. Share your experiences with others, get involved, question what you came with and what you are receiving, examine what you and your classmates want to become, plan what you may want to change about your life, envision the future, and create it. It is through critical examination of our values, and through new knowledge, that we can honor our diverse and global missions. Living an examined life empowers us to lead and change the world. Along your journey, choose wisely and widely from the many opportunities that our rich University offers. In addition to courses, there are organizations to join, seminars to attend, events to enjoy, students to get to know, and faculty to learn from. It is all there for you, but you must choose to take advantage of it. Become truly involved and gain memorable life experiences that you will cherish for the rest of your life. You are the agent for your education and you can create the future you want by the choices you make. You, our students, are the reason we are all here. We look forward every year to welcoming you, knowing you will leave your mark on our nursing program, and on our University life. All of us-- administration, faculty, and staff-- truly look forward to our interactions with you and to the years we will spend together. Welcome, enjoy your journey, get involved, open yourselves to the many options offered, and make sure we prepare you to lead our world of nursing.
