NUHP Courses

 

NUHP Scholars engage in small discussion-based and interdisciplinary seminars to enhance their Honors and overall Penn experience.  Through these seminars, NUHP Scholars engage with leading faculty from across the University.

 

NUHP Course Requirements:

Beginning with the Class of 2015, Nursing Undergraduate Honors Program (NUHP) Scholars must complete a minimum of five (5) honors courses.

  • NURS 389H – Nursing Honors Inquiry – Spring of junior year
  • NURS 386H – Nursing Honors Research Project – Fall of senior year
  • 3 elective honors courses selected from Nursing, Benjamin Franklin Scholars (BFS) Seminars, or Joseph Wharton Scholars (JWS) courses

Classes of 2014 and earlier must complete a minimum of four (4) honors courses:
  • Nursing 385H – Nursing Honors Inquiry – Spring of junior year
  • Nursing 386H – Nursing Honors Research Project – Fall of senior year
  • 2 elective honors courses selected from Nursing, Benjamin Franklin Scholars (BFS) Seminars, or Joseph Wharton Scholars (JWS) courses

Please note: NURS 385H/386H exempts NUHP Scholars from the BSN Nursing Case Study requirement.

NURS324 (GSOC324,HSOC324). Children's Health in the United States, 1800-2000. Connolly.

NURS338 (GSOC338, NURS638). "Sweet Little Old Ladies and Sandwiched Daughters": Social Images and Issues in our Aging Society. Kagan.

NURS339 (GSOC339, HSOC339) "Aging, Beauty and Sexuality": Psycological Gerontology in the 21st Century. Kagan.


Non-nursing Honors:

Beginning with the Class of 2015, all NUHP Scholars are also Benjamin Franklin Scholars. As such, NUHP scholars are required to take three (3) Benjamin Franklin Scholars (BFS) Seminars. These courses may also be counted toward Nursing sector requirements and/or as a free elective. NUHP Scholars may also fulfill their Honors elective requirements through the Joseph Wharton Scholars (JWS) courses in Wharton (i.e. specified sections of FNCE 100, FNCE 101, MKTG 101, MGMT 101, MKTG 476, STAT 430, STAT 431, WH 399, and the other Wharton BF Seminars).

Please note: NUHP Scholars may not take honors courses pass/fail.
