Mathias J. Brunner Instructional Technology Center
State-of-the-Science
In a
tribute to her late husband, Lillian Brunner, Ph.D., an internationally
acclaimed nurse has made a contribution to the School of Nursing creating the
Mathias J. Brunner Instructional Center as a personal and professional
collaboration between Nursing and Engineering. This interactive learning center
represents a commitment to education and life long learning for nursing students
and professional nurses. Here, participants can engage in innovative learning
experiences through practice, simulation and evaluation with the goal of
providing excellent patient care.
Students and professional nurses involved in primary care, acute care and
critical care programs, have access to Internet resources and software
applications via bedside computing terminals in the lab, in addition to advanced
care technology such as cardiac monitors, ventilators intra-aortic balloon pumps
and patient care simulators. A host of companies, including Medical Plastics,
Datascope, Mediq and Agilent Technologies, made generous donations in support of
this project. A Virtual Reality Learning Center is housed within the lab
offering an Intravenous Simulator purchased jointly by the Children’s Hospital
of Philadelphia and The School of Nursing.
