Application Information

The University of Pennsylvania’s Xi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the International Honor Society of Nursing, annual membership is open for 2008. We strongly encourage all qualified students to apply by completing a membership application supported by two (2)  Letters of Recommendation/Endorsement from current members of Sigma Theta Tau International, and a copy of your transcript.

Application Deadline:  February 11, 2008

The purposes of the Society are to:

• Recognize superior achievement
• Recognize the development of leadership qualities
• Foster high professional standards
• Encourage creative work
• Strengthen commitment to the ideals and purposes of the profession.

There are three categories for application: undergraduate, graduate, and community membership. Criteria for membership are:

• Undergraduate students must have completed at least one-half of the nursing curriculum, have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale, rank in the upper 35% of the graduating class, meet the expectations of academic integrity, and be endorsed/recommended by two (2) current members of Sigma Theta Tau.
• Graduate students (masters) must have completed at least one-fourth of their nursing program of study, have a GPA of at least 3.5, meet the expectations of academic integrity, and be endorsed/recommended by two (2) current members of Sigma Theta Tau. Students in doctoral programs are required to achieve 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 grading scale or its equivalent.
• Community Leader Membership applicants must hold a minimum of a baccalaureate degree, or the equivalent; have demonstrated marked achievement in education, practice, research, administration, or publication; and be endorsed/recommended by two (2) current members of Sigma Theta Tau.

Applications and Recommendation Forms are available on the web at the link above. Applicants will be responsible for collating the application and sealed Letters of Recommendation/ Endorsement.
