OTIS

The Office of Technology and Information Systems (OTIS) is primarily responsible for providing the robust infrastructure and ample IT resources needed by faculty, staff, and students to succeed in a research-intensive institution.

The research mission is supported through scalable infrastructure, effective data management, and reliable security controls to protect confidential research data.  Supporting infrastructure is in place to enable intra-disciplinary collaboration, and several pilot programs are underway to further enhance interdisciplinary collaboration.

Classroom technology includes flexible learning spaces and wireless access in classrooms. Students experience the same cutting-edge electronic records system that is used in major hospitals. In the Brunner Health Sciences Lab students have access to Internet resources and software applications via bedside computing, in addition to advanced care technology such as cardiac monitors, ventilators, intra-aortic balloon pumps and patient care simulators. A Virtual Reality Learning Center is also housed within the lab offering such technologies as SIM Man and Intravenous Simulator.

To further support the learning experience, the school houses a General Student Computing Lab and Doctoral Student Computing Lab.  The General Lab is open to all Students, Staff, and Faculty of the University of Pennsylvania, as a resource for accessing information, applications, services and peripherals to enhance learning.
