This center, working in partnership with the Hartford Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence, serves to advance gerontologic nursing and aging research that will improve the quality of life for elders and their caregivers. Researchers design and test models of care that emphasize individualized, patient-centered interventions and demonstrate the unique contributions of advanced practice nurses in the care of at-risk and vulnerable elders and their caregivers. Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research (CHOPR) conducts research on health care and workforce organization, financing, and outcomes, and on public policies that influence nursing and health care delivery in the U.S. and internationally. Researchers monitor trends and evaluate programs and policies that potentially affect patients’ access to and quality of care. CHOPR is administratively located in the School of Nursing and physically housed in the School of Nursing, the Department of Sociology, and the Population Studies Center. Its faculty and students are drawn from nursing, sociology, demography, medicine, health management and policy, and health economics. CHOPR’s research and training programs are interdisciplinary, and well integrated with health services and policy and social science resources throughout the University.
