Living in the City of Brotherly Love

The "City of Brotherly Love" is a city of neighborhoods -- each with its own distinct, unique  identity -- that offers something for everyone, for every student of every major, with any interest.

Bike along the scenic Schuylkill River in nearby Fairmont Park or watch a live glassblowing demonstration in Olde City as part of the many First Friday exhibitions. Shop for fresh fruits, meats, fish, and vegetables in the Italian Market or attend a professional sports game (Philadelphia is one of only 13 U.S. cities to have all four major sports) to see the passion of "Philly fans."

The city's location is one of the most convenient. Amtrak's 30th Street Station is just a few city blocks away, the Philadelphia International Airport is a 15-minute drive from campus, and a train ride will put you in New York City or Baltimore in a little over an hour. The ski resorts of the Pocono mountains and the sandy shores of the Atlantic Ocean are also just short car trips from Penn's campus.

Visit the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing today to see a beautiful university in one of the country's most vibrant, historic cities.

Phun Philly Phacts

William Penn coined the name Philadelphia, Greek for "brotherly love" (philos, "love" or "friendship", and adelphos, "brother")

Philadelphia has more public art and more murals than any other American city

The city is home to many "first-in-America" institutions, including the first bank, hospital, post office, university (Penn!), and zoo

The iconic American Bandstand program of the 1950s was shot across the street of Penn Nursing's LIFE Center
