 Bringing Files into the Classroom

There are a variety of ways to bring your course materials into the classroom and the following is an overview of some of the choices with a few pointers.

 Network Drives

Being a part of the nursing community, you may use the network drives (F:, H: drives) to transport your files from your office to the classroom.  First, save the file on your network drive, and when you log into the classroom computer, be sure to log onto the ‘Nursing’ domain.  Your network drives will show up in ‘My Computer’.

 Recordable Optical Media

CD-R discs and DVD-R discs are becoming more popular to transport data and files.  After burning a new disc, always be sure to check it on a computer other than the one you created the disc on (this could be the classroom computer prior to class).  This is the best way to double check your disc and presentation prior to using it because sometimes just links to files copy onto the disc and it will appear to work correctly on your computer, but not anywhere else.

There is an issue with running DVD-R discs on some equipment.  Not all discs will play on all DVD players and computers with DVD drives.  If you have to use a DVD-R disc, please check your disc prior to class to make sure that you can access your files or play the disc.

 USB Drives

USB drives are a very convenient and portable way to transport your files.  There are a couple of tips to help you use USB drives in our classrooms.

  1. All classroom computers have front USB ports.  DO NOT PULL OUT THE COMPUTER to access the rear ports because you can damage the cables in the back of the computer.

110, 111, 112, 113A and 113B’s

USB port is under a plastic

protrusion at the front

of the computer.   Please see the

  1. If you are logging onto the computer using your Nursing account, have your USB drive plugged in BEFORE you log on.  Normally, the USB drive will take the place of your F: drive.
