Salimah Meghani, PhD, MBE, RN, FAAN has been appointed to the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Transforming End-of-Life Care.
The committee will “examine the current state of end-of-life care with respect to delivery of medical care and social support, patient-family-provider communication of values and preferences, advance care planning, health care cost, financing and reimbursement, and the education of health professionals, patients, and their loved ones.”
Her research focuses on understanding and addressing sources of disparities in pain treatment among vulnerable populations. Dr. Meghani serves as Vice-Chair of the American Pain Society's Pain Disparities Special Interest Group. She also serves on the editorial board of Pain Medicine, the official journal of the American Academy of Pain Medicine. Dr. Meghani is on the board of directors of the Foundation for Ethics in Pain Care, a non-profit entity invested in improving pain care through education, research and advocacy. She was appointed by Pennsylvania Department of Aging on a statewide Task Force for Improving Quality at the End of Life for Pennsylvanians.
