Dr. Curley Receives AACN Grant

Martha A. Q. Curley, PhD, RN, FAAN has received one of two American Association of Critical-Care Impact Research Grants. The $50,000 grant supports clinical inquiry that drives change in high acuity and critical care nursing practice.

Dr. Curley will use the grant to further assess the predictive validity of the Braden Q Scale for the development of immobility-related pressure ulcers and test a new element, the Braden Q+D, to describe pediatric patient risk for medical-device related pressure ulcers.

For more than 20 years, Dr. Curley’s research has focused on multi-site clinical trials to advance knowledge in the care of critically-ill pediatric patients, to develop instruments that could provide clinicians with better tools to assess patient status and risk, and to experiment with different interventions to support parental needs and priorities in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).
