Penn Nursing and Wharton dual degree student, James Calderwood, has been awarded the prestigious Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholar's program at Howard University. During the ten-week internship Mr. Calderwood will experience the legislative process and the function of congressional offices and committees with direct responsibility for health related policy. The program provides accommodations, transportation and expense allowance for meals and runs May 21 through August 4.
Barbara Jordan was a former trustee of the Kaiser Family Foundation, and the first African American woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from the South. The Barbara Jordan Health Policy Scholar's program was established in 2000 to honor her legacy and to develop leadership skills in health policy for a diverse group of young people, with a special focus on students who are African American, Hispanic or Native American.
