Areas of Research Interest

  • The quality of the dying experience for those in nursing homes, their families, and their caregivers.

In Her Own Words:

Many older nursing home residents are frail and vulnerable, particularly those who are dying.  They lack advocates and are at high risk for a poor quality experience as they transition from life to death.  My research is focused on the quality of the dying experience for those in nursing homes, their families, and their caregivers.

As a pre-doctoral research fellow, I am currently working on my dissertation research, a proposed grounded theory of quality of death in the nursing home.  Quality of death may be a useful outcome measure by which to evaluate the quality of care provided to nursing home residents at the end of life. It is my hope that my research will improve the quality of the death experience in the nursing home for all involved:  residents, their families, and their caregivers.
